Fragments of folklore from ancient Japan refer to these creatures as demons. Today, we know them as Shadow Souls. They're a race of predators, stalking innocent victims in the night and draining their blood. And that's not the worst part. While the Shadow Souls rarely kill their victims, their bites leave the victims permanently drained of energy. Left without the will to do anything, the victims become hopeless shut-ins. Even worse, the Shadow Souls are primarily targeting specific young people, those with the greatest potential to lead Japan into the future. They send their minions to infiltrate our culture. They live among us, observing and even befriending their targets. Then they attack, removing our best and brightest from society, while even more of their kind arrives to fill the gaps. Bit by bit, the Shadow Souls are breaking us down — and they live long enough, and have enough patience, to finish the job. And their longevity isn't their only advantage. They're strong, they're fast, and they heal so quickly they're functionally bulletproof. Fortunately, they have a weakness: sunlight. Expose their skin to natural sunlight, and they'll crumble to dust. However, at the rate they heal, they can still walk in broad daylight with their hands and face exposed. The only way to overcome that is to expose their whole body to sunlight all at once. That's right — we have to strip them naked, or near enough to it, out in the open. For that purpose, we've contracted with an outside source to develop a new fighting style. We've also developed tools to recognize the enemy before they can strike. We're learning more about their methods and abilities every day, and...well, without giving too much away, let's just say knowledge is power. The public, of course, is in the dark. You'd think they might have questions about ordinary-looking people being stripped naked and disintegrating in broad daylight, but fortunately for all of us, this is Akihabara, where anything goes. We have yet to determine why the Shadow Souls have chosen to congregate here, but we do know this: here, in this odd little town, is our best chance to burn their whole operation down for good.
